Cosby’s Sexual Assault Allegations Defended by Co-Star

As three more women stepped forward with allegations of sexual assault by comedian Bill Cosby, so did his one-time co-star Phylicia Rashad – but in defense of the comedian.  Rashad played Cosby’s wife on TV.

Sexual Assault Allegations

More than two dozen women have now hurled sexual assault allegations against Cosby. Rashad, speaking to ABC News, said Cosby was being treated unfairly by the media and that he has been a victim of an orchestrated attack.

The three women appeared at a news conference hosted by attorney Gloria Allred. Allred represents a number of the women who are claiming to have been assault by Cosby. Two of the women who stepped forward contend that Cosby attacked them during he 80s. The third alleges she was attacked in the 90s.

At the conference she renewed her call for Cosby to address the allegations by either waiving the statute of limitations blocking some of the women from suing the comedian, or allowing arbitration so the women can be compensated for their suffering. “Predators have no right to prey upon women, to drug them, to sexually assault them, to hurt them and to target them, humiliate them and force them to endure physical and emotional pain,” Allred said.

Allred Attacks Rashad

Earlier in the week, Rashad had stated,”Forget these women. What you are seeing is he destruction of a legacy and it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

During the conference Allred fired back at Rashad, saying that if Cosby’s legacy is destroyed by these accusations, he had no one to blame but himself.

Criminal Investigation

The LAPD has opened a criminal investigation of the charges, though not criminal charges have been filed. And recently, detectives interviewed a woman who alleges she was sexually assault by the comedian at the Playboy Mansion decades ago. Cosby’s attorney dismissed the accusation as being “patently false.”

Police Chief Charlie Beck has said his detectives would investigate any sexual assault allegations, even if they had occurred past the legal time limit for prosecution.
