Man Arrested for Death and Sexual Assault of Daughter
Prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old Newhall man with the sexual assault and murder of his 19-day-old daughter.
Missing Daughter
Matthew Brendan Warner was arrested less than 12 hours after his daughter was reported missing. Ellorah Rose Warner was taken from the home where Warner and his girlfriend live. According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, Warner was able to provide information to investigators regarding where they could find the baby’s body. During the search, neighbors allege they say Warner leave the couple’s home carrying a bundle while the mother was away at work.
The large-scale search operation concluded when the baby was found in the front cab of a pickup truck just a mile from the couple’s home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was identified by her grandmother.
Sexual Assault and Murder Charges
Warner has been charged with murder, assault on a child causing death, torture, oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger, and aggravated sexual assault of a child. His arraignment has been set for Feb. 18. His bail has been set at $2.25 million. He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
Candlelight Vigil
Just shortly after the announcement of the charges, dozens of community members gathered a candlelight vigil for the infant. The infant’s mother, and Warner’s mother, Victoria Law Thomson were in attendance.
“It’s beyond words,” said local resident Michael Cruz. “I’m a parent and I can’t imagine the pain that she’s going through.”
“That’s something like a parent’s worse nightmare that someone in the human race could behave so inhumanely with no regard … and to someone just barely three weeks,” Thomson said. “I don’t get it.”
