Miley Cyrus’ Burglars Sentenced

The man and woman who were arrested for burglary and grand theft auto from Miley Cyrus’ San Fernando Valley, Calif., home last May have been sentenced.

Naomi Charles and Tylor Scott

Naomi Charles and Tylor Scott, both in their 20s, were accused of stealing jewelry as well as Cyrus’ 2014 Maserati Quattroporte, valued at $102,500. The car was later abandoned in Simi Valley, but was not damaged when it was recovered. The two were initially apprehended on a North Hollywood street after being recognized from surveillance video taken at Cyrus’ home.

Sentencing

They’ve both accepted plea deals. Charles, who plead guilty to one count of felony residential burglary, will spend one year in county jail.

Due to Scott’s existing record, and the fact that he was carrying a gun during the burglary, Scott received a higher sentence. He pled guilty to felony residential burglary in addition to felony grand theft charges, and will spend four years in state prison.

Inspiration

Reportedly, the duo was inspired by “The Bling Ring,” a 2013 film directed by Sofia Coppola, inspired by Nancy Jo Sales’ Vanity Fair story. The story reported on the group of seven teenagers and young adults who robbed the homes of several celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, between October 2008 and August 2009.

Cyrus has had to “increase her personal security” after the incident, as was stated in a probation report. The report goes on to say that, “there are not many places the victim feels secure and private.” According to sources close to Cyrus, the singer wanted the duo to receive harsh sentencing in hopes of preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
