Jerramy Stevens Arrested for DUI
Former NFL tight end, and husband to U.S. Soccer player Hope Solo, Jerramy Stevens was recently arrested for DUI. At the time of his DUI arrest he was driving a U.S. Soccer van.
Solo Suspended Following Husband’s DUI Arrest
Just two days after her husband’s arrest, Solo was suspended by U.S. Soccer for 30 days for making a “poor decision,” according to the team’s head coach Jill Ellis. Solo was in the van at the time of her husband’s arrest, according to police, but she was not arrested or detained. Ellis and U.S. Soccer did not offer any further information on what led to the goalkeeper’s suspension.
Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated’s “SI Now” reported that Solo’s suspension was related to a recent pattern of behavior. And just recently, a judge dismissed domestic violence allegations against Solo.
Solo has 159 caps with the United States Women’s National Soccer Team and broke the U.S. women’s record for career shutouts last year.
Facebook Apologies
Following the announcement of the suspension, Solo released a statement via Facebook:
“I accept and respect the Federation’s decision, and more importantly, I apologize for disappointing my teammates, coaches and the Federation who have always supported me. I think it’s best for me to take a break, decompress from the stress of the last several months, and come back mentally and physically ready to positively contribute to the team.”
Lost Games for Suspension
As a result of the suspension, Solo will miss February “friendlies” against France and England. The team has already qualified for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
