The Assault
According to Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section, police responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. following a call that a male hiker of unknown age had been assaulted. Two hikers had spotted the man and immediately called the police. Once on the scene, the LAFD identified the man, in his thirties, had sustained life-threatening injuries. According to he hikers, he man had blood all over his face. The man did not have any identification on him, and was not immediately identified.
Victim of Assault was Airlifted
The victim had to be airlifted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center via an LAPD helicopter. He is expected to survive despite the fact that he had been severely beaten.
The assailant has not been located. Griffith Park is a very popular hiking location for local hikers, joggers, and dog-walkers. Earlier this year, Police warned the local community about two other sexual assault attempts that had happened in the park.
